Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. Hopefully you’ve already thought about what you’re going to get your significant other this year. However, have you thought about giving your car some extra care for the holiday? It may seem like an odd thing to do, but cars need regular maintenance. Why not use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to get around to a few much needed car care tasks.

  • Tune-up
Regular tune-ups keep the car’s performance optimized. When the engine is well-tuned, it delivers the ideal combination of power and fuel economy and produces lower emissions levels.

  • Routine Oil and Filter Changes
Are you up to date on your oil and filter changes? It is the best practice to change the oil and filter approximately every 3,000 miles or three months to keep the interior of the engine clean.

  • Annual Checks
There are a few car tasks that should be completed on an annual basis including the tire pressure and alignment. The car’s tires affect its handling, ride, traction, and general safety. Potholes and other driving hazards, as well as normal wear and tear, can compromise the car’s suspension and steering. Regular wheel alignments decrease tire wear and improve fuel economy, handling, and general safety.

  • Windshield Wipers and Lights
It is critical to have working windshield wipers, headlights, and taillights to ensure safe driving. If you haven’t checked your lights in a while, make sure that they are all working properly. If your wipers are getting worn, take this opportunity to get them replaced.

  • Shocks and Struts
Do you have a car that is more than six years old and still using its original suspension? If so, it’s time for new shocks and struts. It’s best practice to replace these two components at the same time. You’ll get a smoother, more comfortable ride.
